Sur Utópico
(Utopian South)
This is about childhood.
And is about leaving your hometown and returning to a place that has changed over the time -perhaps one has changed too- and discovering that what we long for, no longer exists.

In mid-2020 we began to talk with the musician Frankie Walker about our childhood in the city of Rosario (Argentina) during the 80s and 90s, and about how the pop culture of that time influenced our identity.
A specific quote by the Brazilian writer Caio Fernando Abreu triggered the production: “Why the hell do we have to leave? Returning, afterwards, is almost impossible.”
Both Fran and I have a similar story, we are both from the same generation, we were born in the same city and as adults we migrated to distant countries.
From the beginning we worked in parallel, Fran with the music and I with the graphics, always having as a concept what we called “Morriña” and “Saudade”, words from Galician and Portuguese respectively, that point to feelings related to melancholy, homesickness and longing.
For this personal project I decided to use different techniques, including 2D and 3D digital animation, rotoscopy, painting on video and even image appropriation, because I wanted to build a kind of chaotic puzzle that resembles memory.
